“Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the me for the we.”

-Phil Jackson

Have you ever been so excited about an idea that you just couldn’t stand it?

I scrolled past Ashley’s wall hanger in my Instagram feed and thought, “I want to make that into a pineapple!”

Does inspiration ever just hit you out of nowhere? Or is it just me? Sudden inspiration is the biggest type of inspiration for me. It is as if I am constantly being smacked up the side of the head with ideas all. day. long! I can’t keep up half of the time. I have a mental list about three miles long of projects I want to design and release to the world.

When I scrolled past Ashley’s Crafty Boho Wall Hanger (watermelon mod) in my feed, another brick came, “Smack!” right in the face. The vision of what it would look like was instantly in my head as if my mind took a picture of something that wasn’t even there yet! I knew that I wanted this pineapple mod to maintain her original design with a flair for the tropical. When I approached Ashley of A Crafty Concept about the idea, she seemed as excited as I was, and this collaboration was born!

Original Crafty Boho Wall Hanger

Her original design is nothing short of gorgeous. The bobble stitch texture is eye-catching in and of itself. When it is topped off with the floral embellishment and all of the added fringe, it is not only a crafty concept but a genius concept!

Pineapple Mod

A flair for the tropical is quickly becoming my specialty in the crochet community. After my recent collab with Kathy of Kathy’s Kozies, I am starting to have the reputation of pineapple-izing everything!

Leaves

I began with the iconic leaves of the pineapple which I knew were going to be tricky. I didn’t want them to appear cone-shaped. Instead, I wanted them to have dimension and a life-like appearance! After some experimentation, I finally settled on making the base of each leaf extra wide to accommodate a fold or pleat for that added dimension. They also have a somewhat sporadic pattern of increases to avoid that “too perfect” look.

Flower

Next, I knew the flower had to be the star! I studied pictures of hibiscus flowers for several minutes before I got my hook out. Once I knew what I wanted it to look like, it literally took shape before my very eyes! Adding the rippling texture to the outer portion of each petal was so exciting! “It’s looking so realistic!” I thought to myself as it started to form.

Making the pistil and stamens was no different. After walking the aisles of Hobby Lobby and pondering over my options, I found just the right supplies to create a stunning and realistic flower center. I am so thrilled with how it came out!

I hope this tropical spin on Ashley’s gorgeous wall hanger brings you as much excitement as it did for me! Working it up in muted colors would be perfect for a baby girl nursery! I can envision a white pineapple body with gold leaves and a rose gold hibiscus! It would also look great in varying shades of lavender and muted purples! There are so many color options! By now, I hope you have that hook in hand ready to create one stunning…
