Have you ever had a lightbulb moment with a friend at precisely the same exact time?
The lightbulb moment happened for me and Kathy when we simultaneously threw out the option to collaborate on this project!
“I made a new friend today,” I told my husband as he came home from work. “Oh yeah?” he responded with interest. “Yeah, we are collaborating on a super fun project!” I exclaimed as I continued to rattle off the details. This project was to be my very first collaboration with another maker, and it proved to be nothing short of excitement, experimentation, and elation!
Excitement
The excitement was born from the moment we both said, “Let’s collab!” Kathy of KathysKozies.com was telling me all about her Everything Cozy, and my wheels started turning. Kathy’s Everything Cozy is a beautiful cozy pattern that is fully adjustable for any size coffee cup or mug. It is characterized by two buttons on the back side that enable it to be adjusted, and she has released several modifications to make this cozy fit many different themes. She even makes the most adorable wooden buttons to match!
As she told me the details, I knew I wanted to design a pineapple mod for her. As I began to type the DM asking if I could collab with her, her message popped up, “Do you want to design a pineapple mod?” I was ecstatic! My first collaboration was born!
Experimentation
As I got to work, this crochet pineapple appliqué proved to be no simple task, and the experimentation stage began. As you make this appliqué, you can have confidence in knowing that multiple yarn types have been tested as well as a variety of textural options. Deciding the stitch was probably the hardest part!
There are so many good stitches out there that one can use to represent a pineapple’s texture. Shell stitch? Puff stitch? Simple HDC? Then I finally landed upon the winning stitch — bobble stitch! Who doesn’t love a good bobble stitch project? Next, by way of experimenting was the yarn type. “How can one have so much yarn and still not have the yarn she needs?” Kathy exclaimed. I laughed along with her because I totally felt her pain! After trying a variety of yarn, I settled on Caron Simply Soft as my favorite option. You are welcome to go with any yarn you have on hand, but Simply Soft gave the best result for me!
Elation
Now, finally, this first of collaborations has brought me such elation! I am thrilled to bring this crochet pineapple appliqué pattern to my blog. Hopefully, this can be a project that you makers can run with! I think it’s so adorable that I want to start slapping it on everything! This appliqué is not limited to a cozy! It can be added to a bag, headband, sleeve of a garment…the possibilities are endless! I am not only excited to bring you this pattern, but also to be able to feature another maker! It is always an honor and privilege to be able to team up with other talented people! I hope this modification does her Everything Cozy justice and as always brings to you…

- Size 7/4.50 mm crochet hook
- Worsted (4) weight yarn in two colors
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors

Notes
- Gauge is not essential for this project.
- Finished measurements are as follows:
- Fruit – 3” tall x 2 ½” wide
- Fruit + leaves – 5” tall x 3” wide
- This appliqué is made from the bottom up beginning with MC for the fruit body. CC is joined at the top of the fruit body to begin the leaves, and therefore, no seaming is required.
- Beginning CH stitches do not count as a stitch.

Bobble Stitch
- *YO, insert hook into desired stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
- YO, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook).
- *YO, insert hook back into the same stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
- *YO, pull through two loops (3 loops on hook).
- YO, insert hook back into the same stitch and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook).
- *YO, pull through two loops (4 loops on hook).
- YO, insert hook back into the same stitch and pull up a loop (6 loops on hook).
- *YO, pull through two loops (5 loops on hook).
- YO, pull through all five loops.
Fruit Body
Row 1: Begin with a slip knot on your hook in MC, and CH 6. SC in 2nd CH from hook and in each CH across. (5)
Row 2: CH 1, turn, [HDC, Bobble] 2x, HDC. (5)
Row 3: CH 1, turn, SC INC, SC in next 3 stitches, SC INC. (7)
Row 4: CH 1, turn, [Bobble, HDC] 3x, Bobble. (7)
Row 5: CH 1, turn, SC in each stitch across. (7)
Row 6: CH 1, turn, [HDC, Bobble] 3x, HDC. (7)
Row 7: CH 1, turn, SC DEC, SC in next 3 stitches, SC DEC. (5)
Row 8: Repeat Row 2. (5)
Row 9: CH 1, turn, SC in each stitch across. (5)
Row 10: CH 1, SC evenly around until you reach the beginning of Row 10. Place only one SC in each row along the sides and each stitch across the bottom. Do NOT place two SC in the corners. You may feel that the pineapple buckles slightly, but this method will help form the appliqué into a more rounded shape. SL ST to the first stitch of Row 10. (21)
Leaves
The leaves will be made by using each stitch of Row 1 as a foundation for a long CH and series of stitches followed by a SL ST back into each foundation stitch to anchor the leaves.
Row 1: Join CC and cut MC. SC in each stitch of Row 10. (5)
Join CC Row 1
Row 2: CH 6, SC in 3rd CH from hook, SC, HDC, DC. (4) Join leaf to the foundation row with a SL ST to the SC beneath the CH.

Row 3: SL ST to the next stitch from Row 1. CH 8, SC in 3rd CH from hook, SC, HDC in next 2 stitches, DC in next 2 stitches. (6) Join leaf to the foundation row with a SL ST to the SC beneath the CH.
SL ST
Row 4-5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat Row 2.
Leave a 6” tail, cut yarn, and finish off. Using the 6” tail and your tapestry needle, weave the end through each stitch of Row 1 of the leaves. Pull tight to cinch up the neck of the pineapple.
Weave in all ends.
Attaching
You can use your new crochet pineapple appliqué to add some pineapple-y goodness to any of your makes! Here the appliqué is shown attached to Kathy’s Everything Cozy! You can find this pattern on her website at https://kathyskozies.com!
To attach your appliqué, simply use a basting stitch around the fruit body. Grab only the top of the corresponding stitches beneath, so the stitches do not show through on the other side.
